School life is more important than family life for teenagers?

Can someone please help me?! This is my debate motion. And i am the affirmative side, i agree that School life is more important than family life for teenagers. And i can’t thk of points to support it,Please kindly help me.I’m very desperate.Thank you.

So, are you writing a paper for school, or are you just discussing this in regards to your family, as an adult or as a teen? If you are writing a paper for your school assignment, then why don’t you simply propose this question to your friends and classmates. I am sure you would get lots of opinions, as you probably know that teenagers are full of opinions. You can also look things up in books and online. Here are some reasons I think teenagers find school-life very important, but do think about these, as if you do need to "digest" these, otherwise they are just "someone else’s opinions":
1. Teenagers, children, and even adults all need someone their own age to share common experiences with. As a teenager, another teenager is going through many of the same experiences.
2. If something is happening in the teenager’s life, sometimes they need someone their own age to confide in. Also, when they need to be away from home, at college, in a job, or whatever, they need to be able to rely on the people who are around them, which would most likely be their peers. Strong relationships are important to all people, and although strong relationships can and should develop with people older and younger than us (that is why the world is full of all ages of people, not just one age only), the fact is that we do need to have strong relationships with those of our own age, too.
3. Teenagers are at an age where they are trying to develop their own sense of identity. Sometimes a teen may feel more comfortable in the school setting with these learning expereinces and changes, as well as the activities offered are more condusive to this. (and of course this is where teenagers have to excercise the most judgement).
4. Teenagers are trying to see where they fit in, for opinions, career goals, who they will be. They are expanding their horizons and may be a little difficult to do this in the same home environment that they have been used to for many years.
5. Due to the fact that teens will in the near future need to be more independent and finally make a way for themselves on their own, they are learning to do things away from their familiar surroundings, and make decisions on their own. Going to college or moving when they are a little older is a great change. Perhaps distancing is experienced incrementally, as more time spent at school or with friends, and then growing to the more difficult time actually away from family for longer periods.
6. For the most part, teens are just "social beings", and without the interchange with other teens, the social development that normally occurs, might tend to suffer.
7. Teens are attempting to find a life-mate and you cannot do this very well if you do not have contact with other people.
8. Decision-making abilities develop when you have the opportunity to experience things that require this. It is a trial and error experience that must be developed and also requires the confidence from making some decisions of your own.
Geez, well, if you are compiling this information to tell your parents that you need to spend time without them, then this will not be taken very well. These are all the reasons teens may like to spend with friends, but do not account for the reasons children, teens and adults need family. Family is important because, no matter what happens, we should be able to have someone who has known us for a long time; someone who will accept us for who we are, despite what we are going through in our lives; someone we can trust to be honest with us, but support us because they love us; someone we can go to if things aren’t going the way we may have expected. Family is meant to be a permanent part of our lives, just at different levels at different times of our lives. Friends may come and go, but family should be able to be relyed upon, regardless.

So, if you really want to know what teens think, write some questions that seem to apply. Be direct, and give them some time to think about the questions. Let them write their answers down, if needed. Then you will have some information right from the people you are describing.

If the points noted above don’t make sense, then think what life would be like if you could only spend it confined to the house all day and never go out, at all. No friends, no phone calls, no classes, no job, no outside activities, no sitting at the lunch table talking instead of eating, no soccer, whatever. Think about the points. Are they valid? If so, why are they valid? (Hope you are actually allowed to look for outside help on this!)

What is it like to study in a high school in USA? How different is it from studying in Singapore?

I will probably be going to USA to study after the release of my GCE ‘O’ Level results, marking the end of my Secondary School education in Singapore (equilavent of USA’s middle school and first 2 years of high school, so it will mean I’ll join high school in the last 2 years.) Since I’ll most probably join Lawrence North High School (Indianapolis, where my cousins live) in 2010, I have some questions to ask about the high school system:

1) What are the things I should do to enrol in high school?

2) What are the courses usually available in high schools? (or if you are from Lawrence North High School, what courses does your school offer, e.g. International Baccalaureate?)

3) How is high school systems better than Singapore’s school system, and vice versa? I’ll give you some information about Singapore’s education system to compare (please try to compare every point):
-school starts at around 7.30am and ends at around 1.30pm.
-Extra curricular activities are known as Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) in Singapore, which takes place after school, and variety depends on how prestigious the school is.
-After Primary (Elementary) School, students will be split up into different courses in Secondary School, namely Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) (see http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/secondary/courses/).
-Teachers are nice and caring but this also means frequent nagging and scolding of the whole class.
-Friends are made when they like your appearance and character, and are further improved via CCAs and the few school events and activities throughout the year.
-Exams are usually 1-2 weeks before the national school vacation dates (1 week vacation in March, 1 month in June, 1 week in September, and 6-11 weeks in December), and compulsory holiday lessons (which I hate alot) take place if a syllabus cannot be caught up or if an exam is taking place soon, followed by a huge pile of holiday homework.
-Recess and lunch breaks are held in canteens with at least 7 stalls serving different kind of food in small servings at cheap prices.
-At the end of the Secondary school 4-year Express courseand 5-year Normal Academic course, we take the British GCE Ordinary Level Exams, which will determine where we can go to next (Post Secondary/Pre University education).
-The Junior College is basically a school that provides a 2-year pre university course that prepare you for university entrance exams, called the GCE Advanced Level Examinations. Alternatively, secondary school graduates head to 3-year Polytechnics and choose from over 40 courses (depending on GCE Ordinary Level results and interest) and graduate with a Diploma, but graduates are less likely to get into universities with their Diploma.
-Study attitudes vary from how prestigious the school is, e.g. in my school, which technically is not very prestigious, the immature ones don’t bother to listen in class, do homework and study, while the more mature ones participate in class, do most of the homework, and, with some exceptions, study only a month or so before the exams. That is why we get 200 class-wide scoldings from teachers a year. In more prestigious schools, I heard students are more arrogant about their good study habits and exam results.
If you want more information, visit http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/

4) How are school fees like in USA for foreigners, and do I have to pay any extra for events and activities?

Please provide as much information as possible, as I am new to the new education system. Thanks!

Understandably these minor and mundane details you should be able to get form your cousins.

What do you think about gun rights?

Hi!
Im doing a report in school and I am expressing my views on how people should be able to bear arms.

I need to know your opinions! What do you think? Should people be able to have guns? EXPLAIN please

http://www.youtube.com/user/DOUGandFRIENDS

Watch the videos and tell me what you think…Great stuff on there.

Gomanyes: Where is the sources to your statement?
Britain Backfire.
"A litany of failures were apparent as early as the year 2000, when CBS news reported that law and order in Britain was deteriorating at a rapid rate, while the country was experiencing a crime surge much more severe than any recorded in the U.S."

"use of handguns to commit crimes rose 40% two years following the total ban on guns."

"In 2002, the chance of being mugged in London was approx. 6 times greater than in New York City, NY." (which as strict gun control as well).

“In fact, the motherland was indeed racing ahead by a substantial lead, sporting a crime rate in England and Wales that at times peaked at as much as 60% above the crime stats here in the U.S., with gun crimes being especially prominent?”

Lantz, Gary (2/2008), Backfire in Britain,
American’s 1st Freedom, Feb 2008,
p27 and 28

If the UK had the same population as the US, it would be quite VIRTUALLY running rivers of blood!
But, what the heck, let’s take have a look as someone else’s wisdom in the matter, which I’m sure >YOU’LL< be enamored of!!!
—————
Post # 177 {The UK ‘gun ban’ or GunShow is a CHRONIC LIAR}

Via feedup

USA population compared to UK

300 million USA
60 million UK

Comparison of overall crime increase per million. The statistical population increase is proportional to the rise in crime.

60 Mil./300 mil x 5%+60% increase for illegal’s = approximant rate of increase of crime.

The average per million increase of population figures at 0.75 %.

Illegal insurgent increases at approximately 1.5% per million. Approximant 25 million.

82.5 = 60/300 X (0.75 X 300)+(25 X 1.5)

Gives you an 82.5% increase in crime.

according to the 2006 IL UCR.

Illinois had a population of 12.8 million w/ a murder rate of 6.1/100K (780)

Chicago had 22.2% of the population of Illinois yet accounted for 60% of murders w/ a per capita rate of 16.4/100K

Cook County had 41.4% of the population of Illinois yet accounted for 73.6% of murders w/ a per capita rate of 10.83/100K

The Cook County murders in raw number/per capita increased 4.4% and 4.9% respectively while arrest numbers and rates dropped over 18% from ’05 to ’06.

If Chicago were to fall into Lake Michigan, the Illinois murder rate would drop to 3.14

Were the rest of Cook County to follow suit, the rate would drop to 2.74.

So far this year, murders are up 18%. (summer of ’08)

And where are the strictest gun laws?

Why do people play games?

I am 29, back in the dating scene. Why are people my age still playing games like we are in high-school? Why can guys not come out and say exactly what they want? Its like guys want to be mysterious but really all that does is make me wanna run the other way. Is it really that hard for guys to express their feelings or even be honest with their-selves. Frankly I think its lame!

Girls have trouble making up their minds much more often than guys do.
